Welcome to another Weekly Fitness Update, where I recap the week’s workouts and any other miscellaneous health/fitness-related thoughts. Thanks for helping me keep myself accountable 🙂
I actually had a pretty great week, fitness-wise. I’ve been feeling SO much better lately, have more energy, and my mood has been incredibly happy and positive. I’m loving finally feeling these positive changes have an effect on me! Here’s this past week’s progress so far on my 10K training:
Monday: Much needed rest day.
Tuesday: 60 minute spin class at the new gym.
Wednesday: Ended up skipping my workout. I’m really bummed that I already have a big red block on the schedule, but I know that things happen and it’s not going to ruin my training. I just definitely don’t want to make a habit out of it. I have enjoyed my flexible schedule though and have rearranged days as needed. Like today (Monday the 3rd) is now a rest day because I did 3 days in a row of leg workouts and I am BEAT.
Thursday: Rest day (It was Mike’s 26th birthday!). We did get Mexican food for dinner so not the healthiest, but I think I made up for it the rest of the week, as you’ll see below.
Friday: 4.25 mile run. This was my longest & farthest run to date! I actually wanted to do 4.5 but I came pretty close so I’m happy with it 🙂
Saturday: We went skiing all day at Snow Trails in Mansfield, Ohio! This was our 3rd ski trip, and definitely the most fun we’ve had out of any of our trips so far. Snow Trails was perfect for us because it was made up of mostly blue (intermediate) slopes. There’s also a lot of variety so we didn’t get bored. We even tackled our first BLACK DIAMOND! Woo!
We skied for about 7.5 hours and did approximately 12 miles!
Sunday: We didn’t stop there, Sunday morning Mike & I went to Harness Cycle for the first time (and it was Mike’s first spin class!). It was SO much fun (and really intense), but it was an amazing workout. This was the first time I’d ever experienced having strength incorporated into the class. We did push ups and crunches, and used dumbbells for arm exercises! I also just really love the atmosphere at Harness. It was super welcoming and I love the interiors! I also loved during the class that the instructor, Tiffany, would shout out encouragements to people by name, and we also had a really great stretch session once the class was over. I definitely want to come back here (when I can).
I’m really enjoying spinning as a running-alternative and am super glad that the gym I joined offers classes for free as part of my membership. The gym may not be as trendy or glamorous as a regular spinning place, but for the price I honestly can’t beat it. Even if I just joined my gym solely for the purpose of the spinning classes – it’s still cheaper than most of the other places. I genuinely liked the other places I went and would love to go there to mix things up when I have extra money though!
I read a tip from someone that if I put my fitness monitor (I’m using the Jawbone UP right now courtesy of Verizon Wireless) on my shoe during spinning, it will be able to track my movements easier than wearing it on my wrist, so I did just that and it worked! Check out my stats from Sunday:
In other news, I added another race to my list – Mike & I are registered for the St. Malachi 5-miler and I’m super excited about it. Not only will it be a good pre-10K prep race, but it’s St. Patty’s Day themed and that’s something I can get behind 🙂

I was accepted into the FitFluential Ambassador program!!! 🙂
Lastly, I had some time to reflect and found a few old pictures that show my progress so far. It’s not drastic, but I notice a difference. It makes me feel good to know that I’m on the right track, even if I still have a long way to go. I can see my hard work starting to pay off.
