Weekend Adventures: 2 Cities and Over 5,000 Miles

Woah – you’re probably wondering where I’ve been (okay you probably aren’t but let’s just pretend haha). This winter and “spring” (or lack-thereof) has really drained me, both physically and emotionally. I’ve just felt sluggish and antisocial and TIRED. So, so tired.

Is it just me, or have you been feeling that way too? Ohio probably has someΒ of the highest records of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Anyways… the miserableness that I’ve been feeling meant nothing inspiring or fun to write about. Plus, I’ll admit, the adrenaline and inspiration has kind of been focused on my new health and fitness blog, Jessica Gets Fit (have you checked it out yet?). It’s been super exciting and I truly love it, but I definitely don’t want this blog to fall by the wayside, either.

I think the warmer months will help – there’s more to do and I don’t know, the sunshine just makes us happier and have more energy and the days are longer. I need the warmer weather to get here ASAP.

So not a lot has been going on except for regular life-y things like working out, doing laundry, cooking dinner, relaxing, etc. Last week, my schedule got all sorts of messed up because I got to go on my first work trip – to San Diego! (No complaints here!)

It was my first time in California, and even though the trip was rushed and busy and so short and I didn’t actually get to see much, it was still fun and a nice change of pace from the regular office routine. However… early flights, delays, and red eyes are not my friends!

My first flight was at 7am, so I was up by 4:45 and at the airport by 5:45. My flight got delayed though, so we didn’t end up leaving until like 8am. I started panicking because my connecting flight was supposed to leave at 8:30 so I was sure that I’d miss it. There was a thunderstorm in Chicago that was causing all the delays, so luckily it also caused my second flight to get delayed. As soon as we landed in Chicago, I rushed to find the shuttle to my new gate, which luckily dropped me off right at the gate I needed – awesome! I got there right in time for boarding to start, and I could finally rest easy. The flight was long and there was no wi-fi and I had my iPad so I actually spent most of the flight furiously typing into Pages – I wrote pretty much a full-on essay haha. I was surprised by the food offerings on the flight, too. Not all of it was healthy, but I got the Morning Energy Selection which came with grapes, a hard-boiled egg, a breakfast biscuit, and my favorite… almond butter! Not too bad for in-flight food, am I right?

I’m always intrigued by being so far above the world inside a plane… I love sitting by the window πŸ™‚ Since I had never been to California before, I loved looking out at the mountains and seeing us get closer and closer to the Pacific Ocean.

My agency’s client had a national conference both Thursday and Friday so we were very busy and indoors most of the time. It was a blur of meeting new people, listening to speakers and presentations, and a slew of administrative-y things.

After the first day of the conference, my company hosted an after-party for all of the attendees at the House of Blues. There was an abundance of free food & drinks, and some more working of course! We had to be always “on” if you know what I mean.

Thursday night after the party, I made sure to at least get my #PlankADay in…

I have a couple to catch up on though, haha. Friday morning was rough – we had a 7am wake up call to get right to work. Luckily, that was about 10am Cleveland time and I went to bed pretty early so I didn’t feel too bad. Yay for time differences!

After the conference concluded Friday evening, myself and 2 of my coworkers only had a short time left to enjoy San Diego – that’s right, we were on a red eye home that evening. I was bummed that I didn’t get to really even enjoy San Diego, but Mike & I have decided that we’ll take a vacation out there at least by next year. His mom actually grew up in San Diego and his uncle lives in LA so it’ll be fun.

We didn’t get home until 6am Saturday morning, and I was EXHAUSTED. I went right home and back to bed for a few hours. Saturday was rough in general, I just did not have any energy whatsoever. I think I took another nap in the afternoon, too. We didn’t do much, except grocery shop & run some errands because we had a busy Sunday ahead of us.

Sunday we drove down to Columbus, OH to surprise Mike’s little bro (from Phi Delta Theta) for his birthday. We all met up at the Columbus Blue Jackets game and it was an AWESOME game!!! There was lots of scoring, lots of fights, and the CBJ won 4-0! #ShutOut

It was a nice day in CBUS.
