I can officially say that I have my first 5K in the bag!
(And I’m actually doing another one today… but more on that later.)
The Dirty Girl 5K was a blast – a very dirty one. It worked out really well for being my first one because it wasn’t timed and was a “fun run” so I didn’t feel pressured to push myself more than I was comfortable with. Plus, with everyone waiting to get through the obstacles, there were waiting times. The obstacles weren’t too intense, but enough to get you out of your comfort zone. I can’t even remember all of them, but there were walls to climb over, mud tunnels to climb through (more like wade through), “mountains” to climb up and slide down, and so on. The course was out in the middle of nowhere – but there was actually a lot of cool scenery, including a waterfall, a cliff, a river, etc. It was kind of like going on a hike, with a LOT more mud. There was mud literally EV-ER-Y-WHERE.
Sidenote: Tennis shoes become very heavy when filled with mud.
I did fine with all of the obstacles up until the very last one. It’s the big slide – and I landed weird and got mud in my eyes. It was kind of awful, but I was able to clean my face up a bit and get to the last mud pit. I also got some nice scrapes on my elbows and knees from the crawling and the rocks, but we’ll just call those battle wounds 😉
Mike was a sweetheart and stuck around to take pictures & videos, and I also got some professional pictures from Capstone Photography as well.
So I guess I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking…
And we’re off!
Then came the slide… & my little mishap (you can hear Mike laughing at me in this video – what a turd lol):
Our last task was the final mud pool to swim through.
Dawn somehow still looks glamorous in a pool of mud… me on the other hand? Not so much.
All in all, it was a really fun event that I would totally consider doing again! 🙂
Disclosure: I was invited to attend this event for free in exchange for blogging about it. All opinions are 100% my own!
