{Life Update} – The Final Countdown

I would like to first say how saddened I am about the (now multiple) tragedies in Boston (and now Texas)… I know you’ve all heard about the Boston Marathon tragedy by now, but I just want to send my thoughts and condolences to anyone injured and friends & family of anyone affected by these tragedies.

EDIT: As I finish up this post in the wee hours of the morning, I’m hearing about something else going on in Boston early this morning. More devastation, more loss & heart break. I don’t know the full details but I… I have been trying to comprehend all of this, and I just don’t think I ever will be able to. Any of these types of events, I just don’t understand the complete disregard for human life. It honestly scares me. I want to remind you to take time to tell your loved ones just how much they mean to you. Life is so precious, and we never know when it could be cut short. It’s not a fun thing to think about, but I would want them to know how much I cared about them if I were to never be able to see them again. You know?

I also encourage you to check out this heartfelt post from MojaMala. And this post from Poise in Parma.Β And lastly, this post from Call Me Trouble.Β And, as a few CLE bloggers have already posted, you can go here to find ways to help. Thanks for sharing, Jen and Amanda & everyone else!

So, I know it’s hard to switch gears to a lighter subject, but I’ve just got a little belated weekend/week update for you! Nothing too crazy.

Last Friday, I had my 3rd and final wine class day. I won’t go into too many details because I’ll have a separate blog post for that up soon, but it was a lot of fun & I was definitely sad that it was over. Kent offers 2 other wine classes (Wine and Food Pairings & Geography of Wine) that I wish I could take, but I am so glad I at least took this one. Anyways, once I got back from that, I drove home and met up with the BF & our friends Adam and Arielle, who came over to chill with us. We hung out at the apartment for a little bit, then headed to dinner at Bubba’s Q in Avon, OH. Somebody was cravingΒ barbecue, and I can never say no to their fried chicken! Plus the boys loved the sports-theme and the fact that it’s a former Browns player’s restaurant. We were in such food comas by the time we got back that everyone decided to call it a night, plus we had an early start to a long day on Saturday.

Saturday started out with Mike & I heading to Kent. I had a sorority event – our Founder’s Day celebration, so while Arielle & I went to that, he hung out with Adam at Arielle’s apartment. Mike & I were already planning on coming to Kent that night anyways (for a “last hoorah” before I graduate), so once I realized I had this event, we decided to just make a day of it! Founder’s Day was really great, it was my last one as a collegiate-level member, and since I’m graduating, it was definitely emotional. It was nice to get to see my sisters again, too. Being out of the chapter, essentially, for the last year has been harder than I thought. I’m okay now since I’ve gotten used to it, but at first I was having a really hard time with it. It was nice living in Kent and having so many people to spend time with on a regular basis. But life changes, so you just have to let go. Founder’s Day is basically just a celebration of the 8 women who founded our sorority. We have brunch, raffles, plenty of picture-taking, etc, and there was even a Senior Spotlight slideshow, which I was featured on! And of course there was some other ceremonial stuff that’s super top secret πŸ˜‰ – but all in all it’s just a day to gather as sisters and celebrate our bonds in sisterhood! I know that probably sounds cheesy, but it’s such a unique experience that I’m glad to have had. I’ve got some incredible people in my life that I’ve met because of being in my sorority. So, I’m lucky πŸ™‚

All of the graduating Sigma seniors! It’s crazy to see how far we’ve all come…

After Founder’s Day, my big and I went back to our sorority house and hung out while I waited to go through our alumni ceremony. This is basically just a ceremony that’s for graduating seniors only and you enter into alumni status. It sounds very official, right? haha. It, again, was very special and emotional. Afterwards, I met up with Arielle, Adam, and Mike at Dave’s Cosmic Subs for lunch. We spent most of the rest of the day just relaxing and hanging out. We went to dinner with a few people at a mexican restaurant nearby, then went back to Arielle’s apartment and relaxed some more. We were seriously considering not going out that night because we had hit that wall of tiredness, and Arielle & I weren’t feeling that good… but we turned things around & somehow we all got pumped up (caught our second wind?). So we hit up the bars in Kent, and I ran into a bunch of my sorority sisters who were out celebrating one girl’s 21st birthday, so that was really fun. And I also ran into a few other friends. That’s one thing that’s great about Kent, you’re pretty much guaranteed to run into someone you know downtown. Love it.

So it was a good night, a really good night πŸ™‚

My favorite picture of the night, for sure. Posing with Katie’s boyfriend Tommy and his “twin” at Water Street Tavern in Kent, OH.

Random friend sightings are the best! Was not expecting to see either of them, but I'm so glad I did!

Sunday was generally uneventful, unless you count laundry & relaxing as eventful, haha! Monday was getting back to the grind, and also me getting my retainer out. I’ve had a bottom retainer since I got my braces out in high school & never had it removed, so I finally accomplished that. It’s weird to be able to feel my teeth with my tongue again, but I’m excited to actually be able to floss those teeth much easier now! (Eww, gross, I know…)

Tuesday, I got to rock my new polka dot chambray shirt & a new gold necklace (both from Charlotte Russe) to my internship. I think it turned out really cute!

Wednesday, after all my classes, I met up with my little Katie & watched her get her first tattoo!

Defiance Tattoo Kent Ohio

We went to Defiance Tattoo in Kent, Ohio. She had something else in mind but they didn’t have time for it, but she wanted this also so she went for it! They hand-lettered it (which I wish I would’ve done years ago on my tattoo…) and I think it turned out really awesome! It’s small enough that it won’t be noticeable, and she can still cover it up if she needs to. She loves it! During the process, she was squeezing my hand for dear life – it was funny. She did a good job though. Welcome to the tattoo club, Katie! πŸ™‚

After the tattoo adventure, we decided to grab a drink so we went to Panini’s and had an Orange Push Pop drink… Mmm it was really delicious!

Thursday, I went with a coral-accessories theme for my internship outfit:

Charlotte Russe Coral Accessories Jewelry Fashion

All of my accessories are actually from Charlotte Russe again (they had a huge sale so I {of course} had to take advantage!)

After work, I bought two sets of tickets for Mike & I

  • We’re going to see Steve Rannazzisi (who plays Kevin on The League, which is on FX), who’s doing a standup show this weekend at Hilarities in Cleveland. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am. Not only did Mike get me to love the show The League, but this is also my first standup show and I’ve been wanting to go to one for so long now!Β
  • I bought us tickets to see one of my favorite bands in Cleveland in November… City and Colour! I’ve been dying to see them, so I wasn’t about to miss it this time around. If you’re curious, go listen to this, and this, and this. The first one is by far one of my favorite songs of theirs. Their newer stuff is more “electronic” than their older stuff, which was more acoustic… but I love it all! Dallas Green is a truly incredible musician. I get blown away. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like to see him live. I can’t wait!

Then, we went for a 6-mile bike ride, with a stop to Chipotle in the middle (which I seriously can’t even stomach anymore – it’s depressing). I gave up Chipotle a month or two ago, but since Mike wanted it I said I’d just get chips & guac/salsa… yeah even that still upset my stomach. It’s not fair! (Haha).

On the bright side, it was so incredibly gorgeous out yesterday! I love biking through the Metroparks, it’s fun to explore. I really love living in Cleveland πŸ™‚ Granted, some days I want to fly out to Cali but… those are just dreams. My home is here, and I think it will always be here! <3

{Other Random Happenings}

  • There’s officially less than a month until graduation! (This Saturday will be only 3 more weeks!)Β
  • In case you didn’t notice already, I changed my blog theme! I haven’t had time to spruce it up 100%, so that will be an ongoing process – but I hope you like the new theme as much as I do! πŸ™‚
  • Any HIMYM fans out there? Mike & I are hooked (well, I got him hooked) so we are glued to the TV when a new episode airs. Some are fluff & filler, but they’re still funny, and overall it’s a show I absolutely love… and damnit, I want to know who the mother is!!!
  • I won 2 tickets to MedWish’s Band Aid Bash from Clue Into Cleveland’s giveaway!!! I’m really, really excited to attend. I’ve actually volunteered at MedWish through the community service fraternity I was in (Alpha Phi Omega at Kent State), and I just love the organization & the things they’re doing. It’s incredible. I’m so glad I can go and support them even more! Plus, I’m so excited that Chris Hodgson will be providing the food for the event – I’ve only heard good things about this CLE chef & I can’t wait to see what will be in store for us!
  • Mike & I decided when our first Tribe game will most likely be… May 4th, before my mom & I head to the Jillian Michaels event in Cleveland! It will be perfect to get downtown early for the game, grab an early dinner, then head to Playhouse Square! I am so looking forward to it. I’ve been itching for a baseball game.
  • I won this CLE Clothing Co. shirt from their Facebook contest – I guessed first which shirt they were going to be remaking! How cool is that? I already have multiple items from them, so I’m happy to add one more to my collection πŸ™‚

I still really want this hoodie, too.

Okay, well I think that’s about it! Man, life is busy lately (in a good way).
I’ll leave you with a cute picture of Mike & I and Molly πŸ™‚

  • Holy blog post Jess! That is a LOT going on but all wonderful things. Congrats on the the t-shirt! It really will always be the Jake to me. Thanks for the shout-out too!

I will be at the Band Aid Bash! Can’t wait to meet you in real life. Our Founder’s Day was this past week too, I miss my sisters so unbelievably much. Relish every moment you can.

    • Hahaha, I know. I feel like I only have time to blog every so often so I cram everything into one big post. But yes, it’s been crazy, but fun! Thank you, I agree! And you’re very welcome – I really liked your perspective of everything.

OMG really? That’s awesome!!! I look forward to it πŸ™‚

What sorority are you part of? I know the feeling already, since I’ve been commuting to Kent for the last year, I’ve basically been an alumna unofficially so I already miss them!
